Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) slammed President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan although she had $183,000 in payroll protection loans forgiven during the pandemic, according to yesterday’s The Hill. Other Republican critics of the student program whose PPP loans were forgiven include Reps. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Kevin Hern (R-OK), Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
Anna Paulina Luna, Republican candidate for Congressional District 13, has close ties to Greene and supports and often parrots her far-right agenda. She is also allied with MAGA election denier Lauren Bobert (R-CO) and promises to thwart Biden’s efforts to rebuild America. Evidently, loan forgiveness is just fine for millionaires and members of Congress, but not for the vast majority of students saddled with crushing debt.
According to the Washington Post, under Biden’s plan, ”borrowers can qualify for up to $10,000 in student loan forgiveness, and recipients of Pell Grants are eligible for an additional $10,000 in forgiveness. Only borrowers earning under $125,000 per year based on adjusted gross income — or $250,000 per year, for a married couple filing taxes jointly — qualify. The White House estimates roughly 43 million federal student loan borrowers are eligible for forgiveness, and about 20 million could have their debt completely wiped out.” Forgiving these mostly predatory loans will have a profound effect on the nation’s economic recovery.
We need to assure that Democrats hold our majority position in Congress to keep fighting for the rights, freedoms, and prosperity of all Americans, not just the privileged few. On November 8, vote for Eric Lynn for Representative from Congressional District 13.
