FL Constitutional Amendments: VOTE NO, NO, NO

Recommendations by the Tampa Bay Times Editorial Board

Amendment 1- Limits on taxes to flood improved properties: VOTE NO Allows "any change or improvement11 that would prevent flooding to qualify for tax breaks. Allows wealthy homeowners in flood zones to renovate, destroying the property insurance marketplace. Too broad! VOTE NO

Amendment 2 -Abolish the Constitution Revision Commission: VOTE NO Although the Constitution Revision Commission is not perfect, it is a way Floridians can modify their constitution, such as the citizen-petition drives launched for the environment and felon voting rights. Prevent further consolidation of power and protect the voters' will! VOTE NO

Amendment 3 -Additional homestead property tax breaks for certain workers: VOTE NO

The Democratic Party stands for improved wages and benefits for ALL workers, not regressive taxation! This vaguely worded measure does not include ALL public service workers, including support staff, and only benefits homeowners, not renters. VOTE NO
